Key Features:

  • High in Omega-3s & Fiber
  • Plant-Based Protein
  • Natural Thickener

Chia seeds are easy to use because they’re mild in flavor and work well in both sweet and savory foods. A few good options:
- Stir into oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, or cottage cheese.
- Blend into smoothies.
- Make chia pudding by soaking them in milk or a milk alternative until thickened.
- Mix into overnight oats.
- Sprinkle over salads, fruit, or avocado toast.
- Add to homemade granola, energy bites, muffins, pancakes, or bread.
- Stir into jam or fruit compote to help thicken it.
- Add to water, juice, or lemonade and let sit until they form a gel.
- Use as an egg substitute in baking: mix 1 tablespoon chia seeds with about 3 tablespoons water, let sit 5–10 minutes.
- Add to soups, sauces, or dressings as a natural thickener.
- Mix into nut butter or peanut butter.
- Sprinkle into rice, quinoa, or grain bowls.

Store chia seeds in an airtight container in a cool, dry, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard away from the stove or direct sunlight.
For longer storage, you can keep them in the refrigerator or freezer, especially after opening or if your kitchen runs warm. Because chia seeds contain natural oils, cooler storage helps slow rancidity.
A good rule of thumb:
- Pantry: about 1–2 years
- Refrigerator/freezer: often 2+ years if tightly sealed
Discard them if they develop a rancid, bitter, or paint-like smell or taste, or if you see moisture, mold, or insect activity.

What is the difference between black and white chia seeds?

Black and white chia seeds are very similar nutritionally and can generally be used interchangeably. The main difference is their color.

Do chia seeds need to be soaked before eating?

No. Chia seeds can be eaten dry, but they absorb a large amount of liquid and form a gel when soaked. Many people prefer soaking them before use.

How do you soak chia seeds?

Mix about 1 tablespoon of chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of water and let them sit for 5–10 minutes, or longer for a thicker gel.

How much chia seed should I use?

A common serving is about 1–2 tablespoons, depending on the recipe and personal preference.
